Did you know.....?

Many professional florists, including

us, would suggest using cold straight

water for Bulb plants/flowers such as

Tulips. Perhaps the sugar contained

preservatives encourage bacterial

growth, the key to success (making

them last longer) is;

1) Using clean vases

2) Keeping water clean (refill)

3) Placing it in the coolest room in your

house.

A vase of fresh tulips is both

elegant and colorful, but cut tulips are

noted for having minds of their own.

No tulip arrangement will remain

the same day after day.

Allow for these changes and enjoy

the varied display before you.

Tulips continue to grow in water

after they have been cut, lengthening

at least one inch and possibly up to

six inches!!

Tulips are heliotropic and twist to

follow the sun during the day.

The tulip flowers open and close with

the rising and setting of the sun.

Their heavy blooms also feel the pull

of gravity and tend to droop down.

Environment Canada says a temperature of

33.8 C was recorded at Vancouver airport

on Wednesday, shattering the previous high

of 33.3 C that was set in 1960.

Abbotsford beat their all-time record as well.

The previous record was 37.9 C and they

reached 38.0 C. A number of municipalities

throughout the province set daily records.

Victoria reached 35.0 C, besting the old mark

of 31.1 C.

Port Alberni hit 40.0 C, with the previous record

being 37.8 C.

Bella Coola reached 41.2 C, bettering the

previous high of 34.3 C that was set in 1898

Here's a tip to cope with this heat;

Drink a lot of fluids,

stay hydrated and just keep

yourself protected from the sun.

Carry a water bottle. Kids and pets

need to be hydrated more than you!!
